Former Chef of the Year and Gold medal holder, John’s award-winning background has been built on a strong foundation of some forty years standing.
This ‘superchef’ has enjoyed forty years in kitchens for Clients in Spain, Italy, Germany, Greece, France, Jersey, the Middle East and of course the UK. He ran his famous Cookery School at the thousand years old Hazlewood Castle in Yorkshire with his wife Ally for ten years.
He was also a judge on the original TV series of BBC MasterChef.
He quotes his Chef’s apprenticeship (with one of the Great Chefs of France, Monsieur Louis Outhier at Restaurant L’Oasis, La Napoule) and experience from working in restaurants including the world famous three star Michelin on the Cote d’Azur, South of France and five star hotels through to designing first class food for trains, a co-partnership in fresh, fast, street food with Marco Pierre-White as well as more ‘grass roots’ projects. He was also the original flavour designer for Walkers Sensations Crisps when they were first launched.
A Chef who regularly demonstrates at The Restaurant Show, The Ideal Homes Exhibition Show and The BBC Good Food Show, scattered with occasional TV appearances, let him feature his gastronomic skills and Masterclasses in both the UK and also overseas. This included his legendary Cookery Classes in Jersey (Channel Islands) where the Restaurant and glass kitchen overlooked the harbour of St Aubin where the freshest of fish was caught and brought up to the restaurant to be cooked by John.
John enjoyed a twenty year tenure as Consultant Executive Chef to Manchester City Football Club (including under the ownership of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi), where he oversaw matchday hospitality in the restaurants with fine dining. He is honoured to be described as “the founding father of modern British cuisine in Manchester”, and indeed was credited in the Nineties with putting Manchester on the map in terms of great food served in a city location.
John is an elected Master Chef of Great Britain for more than thirty years.
John was tasked with engineering and conceptualising Solia, a new Mediterranean restaurant brand for his Kuwaiti Client, and he opened two restaurants, one in Grand Avenues (Phase Four) and also Murouj in 2018. The incredible success of this new concept restaurant was such that his Client decided to open further Restaurants in “U Walk” Riyadh, Saudi. This was Solia along with Kuwaiti brand Khaneen in February 2020. During his time in Saudi, John was honoured to cater the highly prestigious, inaugural Saudi Cup (horse racing).
